The Gauteng MEC for Health Dr Nomathemba Mokgethi has expressed shock at the tragic death of a senior finance officials in the department.
Mokgethi says the 53-year-old employee died Monday afternoon in hospital. “She was shot in the morning outside her home, after she had dropped her child at school,” she said.
Mokgethi says the Gauteng Department of Health is at a loss for words at this brutal and tragic passing.
“Ms Babita Deokaran was an invaluable member of the Gauteng Health team, she rose up the ranks in the public service in the last three decades after she joined as an Accounting Clerk,” added Mokgethi.
The MEC called on the law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned to get to the bottom of the shooting.
“The Department sends a message of condolences to the Deokaran family ad colleagues that worked with Babita for their loss,” added Mokgethi.
