The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) released a media statement informing the public about yesterday’s matric exams that were momentarily disrupted by load-shedding. The exams proceeded successfully regardless of the blackout experienced by certain areas.
Yesterday marked the commencement of the 2019 National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations with 10162 candidates writing Computer Applications TechnologyPractical examination, across all the 15 Districts.
Load-shedding affected different regions at different times as per Eskom’s schedules. According to the GDE they have 36 Exam Centres, whereby 26 of them managed to complete the exams with the use of generators which were on stand-by making the effects of the power cuts minimal.
“Some learners from these centres were transported to other centres to enable them to successfully complete their exams. However 10 centres were unable to write due to load-shedding. A total of 317 learners are scheduled to re-write their exams at a later date to be announced by the Department of Basic Education (DBE)”, read the statement.
