Johannesburg — Gautrain has rewarded loyal commuters while rolling out new initiatives aimed at making public transport more affordable, accessible and convenient across Gauteng.
Five regular passengers each won R50 000 cash prizes during the Ride and Repeat Competition winner announcement held during the morning peak period. The competition recognised commuters who consistently travelled using monthly Gautrain products over three consecutive months between September and December 2025.
Gautrain Management Agency CEO Tshepo Kgobe said the initiative celebrates passengers who rely on the rail system daily while encouraging greater use of public transport.
The rewards programme forms part of Gautrain’s broader strategy to increase ridership and highlight the system’s reliability, time savings and value for money.
To expand access, Gautrain continues rolling out commuter-focused initiatives, including KlevaMova, which offers a 50% fare discount to qualifying low-income earners, scholars, pensioners and SASSA disability grant recipients. Students under 25 also benefit from discounted fares through the Student Product.
Commuters are further supported through Gautrain’s R1-a-day parking promotion, running until 26 March 2026, as well as expanded Midibus feeder routes connecting communities such as Parkhurst, Longlake, Summerset, Centurion West and Halfway Gardens to nearby stations.
Through partnerships with taxi operators and transport stakeholders, Gautrain aims to improve last-mile connectivity, reduce congestion and strengthen economic activity across the province.
Officials say these initiatives reinforce Gautrain’s commitment to building a safer, inclusive and efficient public transport system for all residents.
