The Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi has confirmed that a rape case has been opened with the police after a Grade 1 pupil at Khenseni Primary School in Soshanguve was allegedly raped.
It is believed the girl was sexually assaulted by general assistant during a toilet break last week Monday.
“We are disturbed and angered by the allegations of a sexual assault of a Grade 1 at Khensani Primary in Soshanguve. We always strive to make our schools safe havens for our learners and are angry that a young girl has, allegedly, been raped at one of our schools,” said Lesufi.
Lesufi says a psycho-social unit recently visited the school and offered support to the family of the pupil.
“We can further confirm that the learner received medical attention and is not back at school yet,” Lesufi added.
Soshanguve police have confirmed that they are investigating a case of rape after a six-year-old learner was allegedly raped at a school last week Tuesday.
Constable Portia Sebone said it was alleged that the girl went to the toilet and found a man she was used to seeing at the school.
“The male placed his hand on her mouth and put her on top of the toilet. He then inserted something in her private part which, according to the child, was very painful.”
“We condemn any actions which places our learners in danger and will continue to call on the police to act swiftly on such matters so that we can continue to ensure that our schools are safe for all learners,” Lesufi concluded.
