Herman Mashaba to find solutions for Alexandra

Staff Reporter

City of Johannesburg Mayor, Councilor Herman Mashaba has sent out letters to invite the signatories to the Alexandra statement of intent meeting which will take place on Friday, 26 April. Mashaba said that as leaders they have the responsibility to sit around the table and find lasting solutions to address the genuine grievances to the people of Alexandra.

Residents have shut down the township in recent weeks over lack of services and have called for Mayor Herman Mashaba to address them.

Mashaba said that ANC Anarchists masquerading as Ward Councilors, who claim to represent the people Alexandra, are not attending the meeting. There’s no intention on the part of the ANC to find workable solutions. This is an ANC campaign to discredit the work done by the DA.

Meanwhile party leader Mmusi Maimane has released a statement accusing the ruling party to have resorted to desperation, violence and destructive tactics that threatens to burn South Africa to the ground.

“From Alexandra in Johannesburg, to Tshwane, to now parts of Cape Town, the ANC is orchestrating violent protests in a desperate attempt to render DA-run cities ungovernable, and to shift attention away from its failure in government over the past 25 years.”

Since residents have taken to the streets, ANC leaders, including David Makhura and President Cyril Ramaphosa have visited the area in a bid to find solution as to what can be done to resolve their grievances.
