The Department of Human Settlements has granted the public an extension to make comments on Notice 139 of 2020 – Property Practitioner’s Regulations. This was outlined on Tuesday by the Department of Human Settlements which is led by the acting Director-General Neville Chainee.
According to General Chainee their dept had published the draft regulations under section 70 of the Property Practitioners Act on 2019 for the public to submit comments. However, on 06 March the public was given 60 days to make comments on the regulations.
Chainee said due to the lockdown they also canceled another schedule of events that was published during the public comments process.
“The Department further published the schedule of events for the holding of information sessions in all nine provinces and most of these were subsequently canceled due to the lockdown” said General Chainee.
Spokesperson of the Dept of Human Settlements Xolani Xundu said the outbreak of Covid-19 has caused them to extend dates for the public to make comments.
“The public was given 60 days to make comments on the regulations and there was a whole programme of public consultation that was also drafted that goes with that, so we only went to Eastern cape, East London and Port Elizabeth and then we had to cancel everything of that public consultation programme because of Covid-19” said Xundu.
Xundu said new dates of the submission of comments is anticipated to be out.
“The Department wishes to inform the public and the industry that a new date for the submission of comments and revised information sessions schedule will be communicated once clear directives have been issued by Cabinet regarding the pandemic, especially the regulations pertaining to public gatherings” said Xundu.
