Two members from Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) K9 and South African Police Service SAPS were shot in Ennerdale, Johannesburg on Monday evening. This transpired after JMPD and Equestrian members assisted the Ennerdale Trio Task Team with information of suspects that were involved in a business robbery and murder.
JMPD Spokesman, Xolani Fihla, confirmed to Gauteng News that one gun-man has shot one member from JMPD and one from SAPS.
“Officers proceeded to Mountain View informal settlements in Grasmere with another suspect that was earlier arrested as per Ennerdale case number. On arrival members approached the shack that was identified by the apprehended suspect. While knocking at the door officers identified themselves,”
“The suspect that was inside the shack discharged a firearm shooting at the officers. Officers then retaliated and a shootout ensued. A JMPD officer and SAPS member were shot and taken to hospital in a stable condition,” he said.
The suspect fled from the scene and a case of attempted murder was opened at Lenasia SAPS. Fihla added and urged the public to work with the local police to bring the perpetrator into books.
“If any member from the public has any information or has heard anything regarding yesterday’s incident can report to the local police station or they can call 10111.” Fihla said.
