Johnny Clegg’s honoured at his official memorial

The South African loved musical icon Jonathan “Johnny” Clegg will be honoured at his official memorial service, on Friday 26 July 2019.

SA’s loved musician was laid to rest in a private funeral on Wednesday, 17 July 2019 after his battle with pancreatic cancer.

His memorial service will be at the Sandton Convention Centre and will be open to the public to pay tribute to the late legend.

There have been tickets available through computicket for seating at the memorial. There is no price to be paid, there will also be an unreserved standing are made available for supporters.

The family is thankful for the support and condolences during this trying time. They continue to make a plea for supporters to make donations to The Click Foundation and not send or lay flowers.

The Click Foundation facilitates an online English literacy programme for underprivileged primary schools across South Africa. This programme gives students from grade 1 to 3 the chance work at their own level and speed; directing their learning experience through technology by interactive and fun activities. The foundation aims to have changed over 1 million students lives by 2024 with these literacy and numeracy programmes.

The friends of Jonny Clegg campaign was established in September 2018, where 50 top artists came in unison to compose their own version of Johnny Clegg’s iconic song “The Crossing”. This was initiated as a tribute to Clegg’s iconic legacy and raise funds to combat the education calamity in South Africa and more than 4,000 futures have been rewritten by the aid of the campaign
