Lesufi elected as new ANC chair in Gauteng

Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi was on Monday morning announced as the new ANC Gauteng chairperson.

Lesufi defeated human settlements MEC Lebogang Maile in the highly contested provincial conference.

The education MEC received 575 votes while Maile received 543. The conference was attended by 1,117 delegates from the five regions in the province.

Lesufi’s running mate, Nomantu Ralehoko, was elected deputy chair in the province.

Although Maile lost, his ally TK Nciza was elected provincial secretary, beating Jacob Khawe and Thulani Kunene.

 Lesufi, who has been deputy provincial chairperson since 2018, succeeds David Makhura.

The three-day conference concluded with Lebogang Maile who was also contesting for the position of Chairperson, lose to Lesufi again.

Lesufi received a total of 575 votes, while Maile garnered 543 votes.

Other officials that were elected include Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko, as Gauteng ANC’s Deputy Chairperson.

TK Nciza will fill the position of ANC Provincial Secretary, while Deputy Secretary for the ANC in the province is Tasneem Motara. 

The ANC’s new Treasurer in the country’s economic hub province is Morakane Musupyoe.

Completing the top five positions was Morakane Mosupyoe who has been elected ANC Gauteng provincial treasurer. She defeated Paul Mojapelo by one vote.
