Lesufi revives hope on unemployed youth

The Gauteng department of Education and Provincial Government presented opportunities available for youth in Naledi, Soweto. MEC of education in Gauteng, Panyatsa Lesufi, says there are lot of opportunities and urged the youth to take advantage of them.

 

Lesufi mentioned the programmes that are in place, which aims to enhance skills development, entrepreneurship and job placement among the youth in the province.

“We have Tshepo 1 Million which is a Gauteng Provincial Government youth empowerment initiative, designed to break down barriers for youth to participate in the economy with any education level, from Grade 10 to Graduates. We also have SETAs for graduate internships”, said Lesufi.

 

He added that Gauteng Provincial Government has partnered with businesses and Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator, to assist Tshepo 1 Million in providing hope to unemployed youth. He urged all unemployed youth to visit the website on tshepo.mobi to register.

 

“All SMS’s or phone calls will be made after registering on tshepo.mobi from Harambee. The details go into the same system and Harambee will make contacts as soon as suitable opportunity matches the skill level and profile, also an opportunity being available on the area where a registered youth stay,” said Lesufi.

 

Different opportunities have been birthed through Tshepo 1 million such as online courses at local libraries. Course includes, but not limited to Microsoft Office powered by Thint’iMillion, Second chance Matric, K53 Learners License and learning about retail and hospitality industry.

 

Lesufi said youth will also get stipend as they go through a short-term internship, learnership or apprenticeship.
