Licensing department officials nabbed for fraud and corruption in Johannesburg

Two suspects are expected to appear in the Booysens Magistrates’ court today, 03 February 2022 for charges of fraud and corruption.

Captain Ndivhuwo Mulamu says authorities in the City of Johannesburg’s Group Forensics and Investigation Services received intelligence regarding suspicious fraudulent activities at the Ormonde Licensing Department, south of Johannesburg.

“It is alleged that the suspects fraudulently registered driver’s licenses for applicants without being officially examined by authorities for an enticement of R4500 each,” Mulamu said.

Mulamu further stated that the matter was reported at the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation in Johannesburg for further probing.

Moreover, he added that a sting operation was conducted and during the operation police seized the R4500 entrapment cash, fraudulent driver’s licenses and electronic gadgets for further investigation.
