Local NPO reaches out to the less fortunate

The Corona Virus pandemic has left a negative impact on the livelihoods of many people, in a way that most of them were left unemployed and not being able to provide for their families.

More humanitarian work has been visible since the implementation of lockdown to date. One NPO called National Development of Arts, Culture and Sports (NDACS) in Emabondeni informal settlement in Germiston, Gauteng has been hard at work by extending a helping hand, donating food parcels to the less fortunate and creating job in the area.

Philanthropy Jerome Hlatswayo, who is the founder of NDACSsaw a need for an initiative were the needs of those who are less fortunate are met.

“We want to ensure that the needs of our community are well taken care of,” said Hlatshwayo.

Co-founder and Director of NDACS Nhlanhla Ntuli, said that he saw a need for a movement that is will uplift the community, not only by donating food parcels, but to create Job opportunities and skills development.

“Our vision is not to donate food parcels only, but to create jobopportunities, open an internet centers whereby people are going to be taught computer skills and are able to search for job opportunities.”

There is no doubt that the initiative is at the heart of creating jobs and empowering the community of Emabondeni. Through this initiative, a water and sanitation programme was born, which gave rise to employment opportunities in the area.

The National Development of Arts and, Culture and sports is an initiative of the Department of Arts and Culture, however it does not have an official sponsor as it relies on independent donors. The vision is for NDACS to get more sponsorship in order for initiative to grow nationally and reach out to more less fortunate communities.
