Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Mmusi Maimane say his party will not compromise principles to make the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) happy.

“Coalitions only work on principle, they don’t just work on simply just saying you’ll be pragmatic or you’ll ignore your own principles. Our principles are crucial.” Said Maimane.

On Monday EFF’s Commander in chief Julius Malema announced that his party will not keep voting with the DA and their relationship with the DA was finished.

The EFF wanted to lead Tshwane Municipality, saying they were ready to govern. However, the DA refused to hand over the mayor ship to EFF in Tshwane.

Maimane says he still believes that both parties can still find a common ground and the DA is opening to negotiating with the EFF.

“We are open to negotiate, we are open to discuss this matter.”
