The City of Tshwane Mayor Randall Williams along with the MMC for Housing and Human Settlements Mpho Mehlape-Zimu visited the Marabastad townlands housing project on Tuesday, 14 September 2021,to conduct an oversight visit.
The multi-million-rand social housing project is managed by the Housing Company Tshwane (HCT) a housing entity of the City.
Mayor Williams said the project consist of 1200 mixed units and is set to benefit City residents who do not qualify for government sponsored housing.
“I am impressed to note the great progress that had been made as the Townlands estate is now taking shape,” said Williams.
He said this is the biggest social housing project currently being built in Gauteng.
“Since 2016 it has been a core priority to ensure that we conclude this project. Despite numerous delays including Covid-19 lockdown, we have pushed for the project to be finalised.”
“Today under our administration we can say that the Marabastad Townlands housing project is now close to completion,” Williams said.
Williams announced that the project will be ready for rental applications from 20 September 2021 until 01 October 2021.
“The project will be delivered in two phases; Phase 1 will consist of 691 units while Phase 2 will have 509 units. HCT will soon release detailed information regarding the application process,” Williams added.
