McDonald’s-SA donates over 2000 hygiene-packs on its birthday

Over 2000 hygiene packs were donated to Uthando Centre – Afrika Tikkun SA by McDonald’s South Africa, during its 25-year anniversary. The event was held in Braampark, Johannesburg on Wednesday morning. The donation will help the youth development non-for-profit organisation that services various communities during this unprecedented time of Covid-19.

The handouts will also assist disadvantaged families from communities to ensure that their homes are sanitised and protected. Each pack comprises dish washing powder, soap, toilet cleaner, liquid soap, household bleach as well as multipurpose surface cream. The Executive for Supply Chain, Marketing and Technology at McDonald’s SA, Daniel Padiachy told` Gauteng news that giving is another sign of togetherness.

“Acts of kindness remind us we’re all in this together. And I couldn’t be more proud of how our restaurants and local leaders have come together to give back to the communities they both serve. The donation of these hampers is our way of using our scale for good to assist the most vulnerable of society,” he said.

Afrika Tikkun was founded in 1994 with the goal of developing and uplifting young people in under-privileged communities in SA. Over the years, Afrika Tikkun’s vision has been to enable the economic empowerment of South African young people.

This NGO aimed to tackle the socio-economic drivers that make it difficult for them to break away from the cycle of poverty. It has four centres throughout several key locations. The location includes Arekopaneng in Orange Farm, Phuthaditjaba in Alexandra, Uthando in Braamfontein and Wings of Life in Diepsloot.

CEO of Afrika Tikkun (NPC) Alef Meuleberg added and appreciated the donors from McDonald’s-SA and other partners.

“This year COVID-19 has shown a significant vulnerability of the young people and communities Afrika Tikkun works with on a daily basis. This vulnerability is based on a lack of access to both food and water,”

“By partnering with Afrika Tikkun around food security and sanitization products we thank organisations such as McDonald’s SA to effectively address this need.” he said.
