MEC Lesufi devastated by fatal shooting of Deputy Principal in Tembisa

The Gauteng Education MEC, Mr Panyaza Lesufi says he is devastated by the death of a 50-year-old female deputy principal that was allegedly shot dead on Friday, 21 January 2022 at Phomolong Secondary School in Tembisa.

Lesufi says that according to the information at their disposal, the incident occurred in the afternoon when she was driving out of the school gate.

“One of the gunmen allegedly shot her twice while she was on the ground, and they fled the scene without taking anything from her,” Lesufi added.

He mentioned that the police are further investigating the circumstances surrounding this fatal incident, and their Psycho-Social Unit will visit the school on Monday, 24 January 2022 to conduct counselling to those affected by the incident.

Lesufi vouched that the deputy principal was a hardworking, dedicated and committed teacher who was also loved by many at school and community.

“We sincerely wish to convey our deepest condolences to the family and the entire school community. Indeed, the motive of this level of cruelty is unknown, but I’m comforted that this case been taken over by the Provincial SAPS and as such we are adamant that the perpetrators will be brought to justice,” Lesufi concluded.
