Residents of Laudium, Tshwane have been without water for four consecutive days without notice from Rand Water and the local municipality. The shortage of water is allegedly caused by infrastructure failures and Rand Water restrictions. Due to the heat wave that Gauteng has been experiencing recently, schools were forced to close down and this angered residents as officials have not responded to the matter as yet.
However, on Monday the Minister of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation, Lindiwe Sisulu will be having an urgent media briefing addressing water cuts faced by Gauteng residents. Sisulu has been confronted by critics that she is not doing anything to solve the water cuts and restrictions enforced by Rand Water.
Furthermore, Johannesburg residents should expect stage two of water restrictions by Rand Water as the water service announced that due to high consumption rates, they were forced to implement stage two water cuts. According to Rand Water, Joburg Water has been forced to regulate reservoirs between 20% to 40% in line with the restrictions enforced by Rand Water.
Minister Sisulu will be briefing the media on Monday afternoon and Gauteng residents will know if the Rand Water will continue with the stage two water restrictions, or if the local government will assist in solving the infrastructure failures. Follow Gauteng News as the story unfolds.
