This week has been eventful within the Democratic Alliance with Mayor Herman Mashaba resigning, from his position, on Monday and DA leader Mmusi Maimane following suit on Wednesday.
Maimane expressed his disappointment in the party, during a media briefing in Johannesburg, regarding members who have been trying to undermine him as a leader for the longest time. He was vocal about trying to build a South Africa that accommodates all who live in it but his party did not seem to be as enthusiastic as he was about the idea.
Mmusi announced his resignation as DA leader and ultimately as a member of the Democratic Alliance. ‘I have worked tirelessly to build the project of one South Africa for all. It’s been my greatest honour to serve the people of SA and will continue to do so. I have today resigned from the DA and Parliament. Thank you to the people of this country for your faith in our nation’, he tweeted this morning (Thursday).
A triple blow for the party was awaiting as staunch supporter of Maimane, Athol Trollip, also resigned as DA Federal Chairperson following his loss to Helen Zille in the Federal Executive Chairperson race at the weekend.
All eyes are glued to the Democratic Alliance as they try to find new candidates who will pick up where the previous members left off.
