Movie: Knuckle City

Driven by revenge for his dead father and hunger for success, this womanising professional boxer finds himself driven by the love of boxing but it gets tricky when his criminal brother gets released from prison. Based in Mdantsane, Eastern Cape the professional boxer becomes the local champion in a small town and seeks justice for his father who was caught in a crossfire between dangerous local gangsters.

At first it wasn’t easy for him as a boxer to find his feet in the ring but he later learnt that boxing is an “old sport”, and he needed to please the crowd by showing more passion in his fighting and entertaining his fans by making his opponents bleed and beating them to a pulp.

Knuckle City will showcase on the big screens from 25 October in local cinemas. It was screened in the Contemporary World Cinema section at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival. The movie is directed by Jahmil X.T Qubeka and produced by Layla Swart.
