While trade unions are taking to the streets due to different motives, Nehawu says it will also embark on a picket on Monday at the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) after failing to agree on terms over wages.
Nehawu spokesperson Khaya Xaba said that the negotiations between the union and NSFAS dates back to July where it dragged for a month.
He added that the union believed that they gave discussions a fair chance before they deadlocked on 10 September.
NSFAS said it has been hit hard by COVID-19 but Nehawu is not accepting that excuse, saying NSFAS received money before the nationwide lockdown.
It is also calling for NSFAS administrator Randall Carolissen to step down, accusing him of plunging the student financial aid into crisis.
The union’s demands for a 13 percent increase have been downgraded to 8 percent but were then informed that the organisation had no funds available for any increases.
