Nomsa Mbuyisa’s killer to change his plea

May 30, will mark exactly a year since Nomsa Mbuyisa was brutally murdered by her ex-lover.

Mbuyisa was killed in front of their 20-year-old son as she was about to board a taxi in Mofolo Central last year. Her family said that she was abused by her ex-boyfriend for the 23 years they had lived together.

The suspect accused of killing Mbuyisa appeared at Johannesburg High Court on March 7, and the matter has been adjourned until April 29. It is believed that the suspect wants to change his plea bargain. Last year he pleaded not guilty and now he wants to plead guilty.

As soon as the Magistrate adjourned the case, the suspect left the courtroom without looking at the packed public gallery. He is facing charges of murder, two attempted murder, unlawful firearm, and unlawful ammunition.

Lindiwe Mazibuko said, “It is upsetting honestly because he was just wasting everyone’s time, I mean why would you plead not guilty when you know very well what you have done. It just goes to show how selfish and inconsiderate the suspect is. She said that the suspect wants to plead guilty because he wants to get a lighter sentence.

“He is only doing this to save himself by getting a lighter sentence. One that he doesn’t deserve as this was premeditated, he did all this knowing very well of the consequences and I guess he wants this lighter sentence so he can come back and finish all of us.”

The suspect remains in custody.
