The planned strike meant to take place on Friday has been cancelled by the labour court. The verdict was handed down by Judge Hilary Rakbin-Naicker on Thursday morning in Braamfontein.
The South African Society of Bank Officials (SASBO) along with Cosatu had planned for their members to stay away from work and take to the streets in protest against job losses in the banking sector.
Business Unity South Africa (Busa) had lodged a complaint, earlier this week, with the Labour Court for an interdict against Sasbo and Cosatu stating that the correct procedures had not been followed.

The call for a strike came after South Africa’s four major banks started downsizing by closing some of their branches.
“The matter is treated as urgent. It is declared that the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) and Sasbo have failed to comply with the provisions of section 77(1) of the labour relations Act 66 of 1995”, said Judge Hilary Rakbin-Naicker.
Despite the interdict ruled against them Sasbo and Cosatu have vowed to apply for a fresh strike notice and file a court appeal.
