Police plan to curb crimes in Lenasia suburb

Lenasia police is urging residents of the suburb to cooperate with them by reporting crimes during this festive season, as criminals take advantage because many families travel to different places for Christmas holidays.

Lenasia police station spokesperson Commander Bafana Ndimande said they see an increase on different types of crime in Lenasia. He said they are working with patrollers and Community Policing Forum (CPF) in order to combat crimes.

“During this public holidays such as Christmas day, Boxing day and New Year’s day many people travel to different destinations while others stay at home. Criminals take an advantage to prey on homes where families have gone somewhere for holidays. As police we have planned to work with community in order to combat crimes such as sexual assault, robberies, hijacks as well as murders. We have created an awareness to the public about the crimes that I have mentioned as well as others”, he added.

Ndimande said they encounter a challenge of beggars who stand at intersections in Lenasia, because they sometimes commit crimes or harass motorists. He added that they are trying to remove the beggars from the intersections.

“During our patrols when those beggars see us they run-away, thus we need to work together with community. Lenasia residents should be vigilant during this festive season and report crimes to the police”, he said.
