Three officers accused of the murder of slain Nathaniel Julies have been denied bail by the Protea Magistrate court. The court affirms that the case against the officers is strong and they will remain locked.
Defence attorneys for Simon Scorpion Ndyalivana, Caylene Whiteboy and Voster Netshiongolo have always argued that the prosecution’s case was weak, speculative and without facts.
But in his bail verdict yesterday, Magistrate David Mhango believed otherwise.
“If the State case is very weak against applicant number one, why did he send applicant number two WhatsApp messages threatening to kill her?”
The trio faces charges of killing a 16-year-old boy who had Down Syndrome, discharging a firearm in public, possession of ammunition, and defeating the end of justice.
Julies was shot and killed allegedly by police officers on August 26 in Eldorado Park. His death sparked fierce protests in the area, with residents accusing police of always acting with impunity.
The trio will remain in custody while further investigations are ongoing and will be back in court on November 6.
