Thabo Hlophane was kidnapped and assaulted by his employer, the Pro Roof Steel Merchant, at Veereneging in Meyerton for apparent cooper theft.
Hlophane was rescued by his father and the local police on Thursday afternoon from the scene.
Gauteng News is told that Thabo stole a piece of Cable cooper. Upon realizing that Hlophane stole a cooper cable, the senior management of the company and the Security immediately assaulted and kidnapped him at their premises.
“They hand cuffed and beat me up most of the time. They locked me in the premises of the company and my tooth was taken out as they assaulted me. I’m traumatized by what happened to me. I was wrong to steal the cable but what they did to me was uncalled for,” said Thabo.
The company did not deny the assault claims, but kept on reiterating that Thabo did was wrong.
Speaking to Gauteng News, Kim from Human Resource department said Hlophane was assaulted by his colleagues.
“We are not aware that our manager, HR and security guards assaulted Thabo. But, we know that he was assaulted by his 3 colleagues after realizing that he stole cooper.”
However, when Gauteng News tried to get a comment from Pro Roofing senior management, they were defensive and rude to our journalist, they claimed the publication promotes cooper theft and they ended up disconnecting the call.
Thabo opened a case against the company on Thursday after he was released by the police and the case is currently under investigation at the Meyeton police station.
