R44 billion development project under way in east of Pretoria

City of Tshwane Executive Mayor Randall Williams confirmed that an ongoing development project worth R44 billion in east of Pretoria, is an economic node in the city.

Williams said the project branded East Capital, will assist the City of Tshwane municipality as a key for job creation in the country.

“The long-term development project has already created 239 700 jobs during construction phase, which cost R149 billion. Long-term sustainability phase cost R138 billion and 177 520 jobs were created. The Prencint has been developed in two segments, which are phase one and phase two. Aplan includes 100 000m2 Hazeldean shopping mall, hospitals, educational facilities, retails, 40 000m2 offices, 800 000m2 commercial floor space, hospitality and tourism components”, he added.

Williams said R44 billion Hazeldean development project plan started in 2006, where they wanted to offer a full circle living lifestyle to the residents. He said an additional 11 000 residential dwellings will be provided including secure lifestyle estate. 

“Our vision is to turn all seven regions of metro into a hub of opportunities. We also want to contribute in job-creation in the country as unemployment rate is high. Attracting investors is our aim as government because it will benefit residents and municipality”, said Williams.

He said city has already approved development of different townships, roads master plan of the node and several residential commercial. Williams said retail sites have already been constructed in the area.

“The new city will be reached through N4 and R90 million road, PWV17 linking N4 and R21. East Capital is the new Gauteng rapid rail system on the route from Mamelodi to Midrand”, said Williams.
