Renowned iSanusi, traditional healer and author Credo Mutwa has passed away. The Credo Mutwa Foundation confirmed the passing of the 98-year-old.
Born Vusamazulu Credo Mutwa on the South Coast of KZN on 21 July 1921, the traditional healer was respected country-wide. He is known as an author of books that draw upon African mythology.
His popular book Indaba, My Children was a commercial success after selling over 250,000 copies in South Africa alone. In addition, Mutwa also pursued his talents as a painter and sculptor.
Mutwa had been vocal about the use of traditional African medicines for the treatment of HIV/Aids and cancer.
It’s believed that during his lifetime, Mutwa had predicted the 9/11 bombing of the Twin Towers, Chris Hani’s assassination, and the ousting of former President Thabo Mbeki.
In 2018 he was honoured with an USIBA award presented by the department of arts and culture for his for his work in Indigenous Wisdom.
At the time of his long illness and his death, the self-professed Sanusi was living with his third wife Virginia in Kuruman in the Northern Cape.
