Robbers in cash- in transit heist killed in shootout with police

Members of the South African Police Services (SAPS) shot dead one robber during a cash-in-transit heist on R28 , Mohlakeng in Soweto. The heist took place on Wednesday.

The police are requesting members of the public to inform them when coming across a white single Ford Ranger and silver BMW, which was used to carry out the crime.

“By-standers witnessed robbers speeding heavily in a white single Ford Ranger and silver BMW towards the cash van. This led to G4S truck bombing with a grenade and robbers took an undisclosed amount of money.  Police arrived before the criminals could run away and one of them was shot dead. The incident left a G4S security severely wounded, where other robbers were able to flee the scene. We are conducting investigations and want to arrest those who were also involved on the heist”, stated police report.

On a different case, police have also shot and killed four criminals yesterday while trying to rob a cash-in-transit vehicle at a fuel station in Braamfischerville, Soweto.

Police spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe said they got a tip-off about a planned cash heist around Braamfischer.

“Cash-in-transit vehicles were followed by two cars on its route to collect money at an ATM. Police chased the criminals’ cars and shot dead four suspects. Other robbers were able to run away. We are on hunt of those who escaped. We are planning to implement 72-hours activation to mobilise resources. The suspects on the run will be arrested and face the law”, said Col Mathe.
