NUMSA union together with SAA workers are officially on strike demanding a salary increase of 15 percent but SAA is offering 5.9% This will be attainable if the SAA still has funds to provide the said salary increase. NUMSA members rejected the 5.9% as there’s no guarantee that the offer provided by SAA might be fulfilled.
Airline passengers were notified that their travel flights had been cancelled until Sunday and SAA would be using Mango flights as an alternative for their customers. This has created frustration and inconvenience for passengers and NUMSA members are adamant about their demands and refuse to accept SAA’s offer.
Meanwhile, the union workers question the SAA’s decision to cancel flights until Sunday and what plans they might have as the national strike intensifies. SAA is known to be one of the SOE’s that are usually funded by the national treasury but corruption and maladministration leaves a hole in their pockets.
