Gauteng remains the economic engine of South Africa, contributing nearly a third of the country’s GDP, but the province continues to face mounting economic pressures.
While key sectors such as finance, manufacturing, logistics and services remain active, slow economic growth, high unemployment and service delivery challenges continue to strain businesses and households. Youth unemployment, in particular, remains one of the most pressing concerns.
Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi said the provincial government is intensifying efforts to stimulate growth and create jobs.
“Gauteng must work harder to convert economic plans into real opportunities for our people. Our focus is on infrastructure development, investment-led growth and ensuring that every intervention delivers jobs and restores dignity,” said Lesufi.
The provincial government has prioritised investment attraction, infrastructure upgrades, energy security and township economic revitalisation as key drivers of recovery.
Despite ongoing challenges, Gauteng’s strategic location, developed infrastructure and strong private sector continue to position the province as a critical player in South Africa’s economic future.
