Tatjana Schoenmaker takes the gold medal home

In the city of Tshwane, the department of Community and Social Development Services congratulates one of their own, miss Tatjana Schoenmaker who is from the Tshwane-based University of Pretoria swimming club on her record-breaking gold win.

Schoenmaker broke a record at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Councillor Thabisile Vilakazi, MMC for Community and Social Development Services says, “She consistently puts on great performances and has now smashed the 200m women’s breaststroke world record.”

Vilakazi noted that Schoenmaker has impressively set the new world record at 2.18.95 and gave South Africa its first gold medal win at this year’s Olympics.

“The timing of Schoenmaker’s world record gold win couldn’t be more perfect, it comes at a time when the country needed a moment of inspiration and unity,” Vilakazi adds.

She also stated that the city is proud to have a record-breaking gold win coming from their own prestigious universities, University of Pretoria.
