Taxi operator arrested for possession of unlicensed firearms

Taxi operator in Boitekong, John Kgaogelo Motllhamme (32), appeared in the Rustenburg Magistrate’s Court on a charge of Possession of Unlicensed firearms and ammunition and negligent handling of a firearm. 

The case was postponed until Monday, 22 July 2019, for a formal bail application and he will remain in custody.

On Monday evening an intelligence driven operation at a house in Sunrise Park, Biotekong, was searched following a tip off. Upon arrival at the house the suspect was found in possession of an unlicensed rifle, magazine and ammunition. 

Police  searched the entire house and found a second pistol with ammunition under the suspect’s pillow, but he produced a valid licensed for the pistol.

A white Iveco Sprinter, parked outside his house, was also search which led to the recovery of a pistol and a magazine under the seat of the vehicle.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane said that the police will continue with their commitment of reducing the levels of serious crimes to ensure a safer tomorrow.
