The Queen soapie to air on SABC 2

As South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is cancelling its contract with Muvhango after more than two decades, The Queen telenovela will fill in the void by airing on SABC 2.

It is unknown when The Queen will start to premiere on the channel because Muvhango still has to finish up its final episodes, before exiting the channel.

According to Connie Ferguson, they want The Queen to compete with Generations, The Legacy and Uzalo on viewership ratings. They also want everyone to have access to their telenovela.

Multichoice has not yet announced which show will be placed at the 9pm slot on Mzansi Magic. Some of The Queen fans were not pleased with the recent storyline and continuous changing of actors and actresses on the soapie. They requested it to be removed with immediate effect, though it was the most watched novella on Mzansi Magic.

“Its current storyline involves the likes of Rapulana Seiphemo who plays Hector Sabata, Jessica Nkosi as Thando Sebata and Duma Ntando who portrays the character of Mpho Sebata. In the storyline, Sebata’s family is at war with the Khozas’’, Mzansi Ndaba stated.

For five years now, SABC has been removing some television shows. It removed Days of our lives, which was followed by the Bold and the beautiful then Isidingo: The Need. Muvhango’s removal follows its struggle to regain its high viewership. Allegations say that its downfall started when one of their best writers named Phathu Makwarela resigned from the soapie and joined The Queen.
