Tholimfundo Primary School in Protea Glen, extension three has shut down due to lack of resources and poor infrastructure. According to School Governing Body member (SGB) Phemelo Keupilwe, the schools environment is not conducive to the learners’ productivity making it difficult for the children to receive an education.
The school has broken toilets and the construction of some classrooms has not been completed, this prompted the school to obtain mobile classrooms.Tholimfundo Primary is also alleged to be exposing children to health risks. Community members recently barricaded the streets to express their frustration at the problems faced by the school in the hope of getting the department of education to act.
“The health of our learners is at risk, we plead with the department of education to hear our cries and attend to our needs and build us a proper school, this will at least appease the learners and community of Protea Glen at large “, said Keupilwe.
Gauteng department of education spokesperson Steve Mabona was unavailable for comment.
