South African Police Services, from Protea Glen, launched a manhunt after a shootout took place at a local Engen filling station. This occurred when a group of armed men robbed cash in transit guards. Fortunately, only one guard was shot and sustained injuries on the leg. The three suspects got away and drove off in a grey Volkswagen Jetta.
Gauteng News spoke to Sergeant Vincent Mashiteng, spokesperson of the Protea Glen Police station, who had this to say.
“Currently we don’t have any leads but we can confirm that the cash in transit guard was shot in the leg and only one person got injured from the robbery. We are looking into the footage and we are working very hard to find the three suspects. One of the suspects took a gun and cash box from the guard. A media statement will be released and further details will be communicated with the media in due time.”
Community members are urged to work with the local police and assist in apprehending the three suspects. CCTV footage has been released and the armed men are seen attacking the guard at the door and taking the cash box from the him, a shootout then took place at the Engen garage as the cash transit guards also tried to protect themselves.
