Tourism Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi has joined the South Africans in paying tribute to the chef and author, Lesego Semenya.
While Minister Kubayi was paying tribute, she mentioned that Chef Semenya had an illustrious career in hospitality industry and was celebrated both locally and internationally. His first book ‘Dijo: My Food, My Journey’ became the bestseller after its exposure in 2018.
Minister Kubayi says, “He is known for his passion for food and giving back to others through his craft, he has cooked for numerous public figures since starting his culinary journey.”
She added that Semenya spent a year travelling before enrolling with one of the best culinary schools and became a friend to tourism. He managed to juggle both travelling and food.
Minister sadly said, “We are saddened by the news and join other South Africans in mourning Chef Lesego’s untimely passing.”
She added that Semenya’s contribution in the culinary landscape remains an inspiration to many of us. “He was a vibrant voice and an inspiration for many people,” says Kubayi.
“In his honour, we will continue to provide the necessary support to young South Africans to help them realise their dreams of becoming qualified chefs and successful entrepreneurs,” concluded Kubayi.
