Tswelopele Clean-up campaign cleans the Cullinan streets

The City of Tshwane took the Tswelopele clean-up campaign to region 5 in Cullinan on the weekend. The community members and the Tshwane’s stakeholders partnered with the city to safeguard and protect their natural environment, not withstanding the weekend cold weather condition.

“Working together we have collected and disposed around 300 refuse bags during the campaign in Cullinan on Saturday,” the Tshwane Executive Mayor Randall Williams said.

Williams expressed gratification for the large number of participation from the local community members. “This is particularly encouraging as it sets the example for driving community involvement across the city,” he added.

The weekend drive was a kill two birds with one stone. Williams revealed that while cleaning the neighbourhood, the campaign also educate communities, NGOs and the business sector to embrace active citizenry by collaborating to clean and protect natural environment.

“The campaign was also well supported by the local Marli Martin NGO, local supermarket Spar and Petra Diamond Mine by providing water, gloves and litter pickers,” Williams added.

He averred that the success of the recent weekend clean up speaks to a core goal of the Tswelopele campaign which seeks to drive partnerships with communities, NGOs and businessesto encourage volunteerism to assist the city in protecting the environment.
