Wrong Covid-19 jabs delivered to a vaccination site

A vaccination site in Gauteng has already met setbacks after it has received  incorrect Covid-19 jabs.

This comes as the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine for educators and support staff began nationally on Wednesday.

Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi confirmed to the media after getting vaccinated in Tembisa that the wrong vaccine doses were delivered at one of the province’s sites.

He said the Pfizer vaccine was delivered at a site meant for education staff instead of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

“There’s an area in the south where they are assisting the over 60s and they are using Pfizer for that purpose. Unfortunately, there was a communication breakdown, the same Pfizer was taken to a site where they are vaccinating educators,” said Lesufi.

Lesufi said the confusion has been attended to. “That confusion has been attended to. I think it will be rectified if it has not been rectified already,” he said.

He says he hopes that the inoculation of teachers will be done within the prescribed time frames.

“I said to the team, let us do it according to the timeline they have given us. People are waiting in the queue so as the education sector we cannot delay that queue. I’m relieved that we are starting,” added Lesufi.

Over 125 000 teachers and school staff are expected to receive their Covid-19 vaccines around Gauteng.
