Young volunteers lead Tswelepele clean-up drive in Menlyn

This weekend the City of Tshwane working in partnership with the World Mission Society Church of God took the Tswelepele Campaign to Menlyn in Region 6 for a combined effort to safeguard and protect natural environment.

Tshwane Executive Mayor, Randall Williams said, “Working together with a group of 65 youth volunteers, we collected and disposed of around 300 refuse bags during the campaign in Menlyn cleaning up Corobay Avenue.”

Williams says Menlyn is an important economic zone in Tshwane as it host to various businesses that provide opportunities to our residents.

“However, despite the prosperity of the area, it is also home to neglected green open spaces,” Williams said.

He added that the campaign focused on removing debris and litter with the aim of drawing attention to the importance of preserving green open areas throughout the city.

He says he was pleased to see the young people leading the clean-up activity. “Alongside cleaning up our living spaces, one of the goals of the Tswelepele clean-up campaign is to inspire communities and businesses to take charge of their natural environment,” added Williams.

He revealed that the group forms part of the World Mission Society Church of God network of youth volunteers as he sends his gratitude to the church and Pastor Noah.

He said, “The church together with the young volunteers from the ASEZ University Student Volunteer Group often run clean-up campaigns of their own in various parts of the city.”

Williams added that the weekend clean-up was supported Cintocare hospital and the company Abman who both provided PPE and refreshments to the volunteers.

He acknowledges Menlyn CID, SAPS and TMPD for ensuring the safety of the volunteers as they cleaned-up the Corobay Avenue.

“I am very pleased to see Tswelepele Clean-up Campaign continuing to gain momentum as we promote building a clean city,” concluded Williams.
