During this festive season, high density police operations, safer festive awareness, detective operations, crime intelligence and multi disciplinary terms from law enforcement units were conducted at different places in Pretoria, where 425 people got arrested on Christmas weekend.
Tshwane District Commissioner Major General Mohajane activated and monitored law enforcements on the ground to attend identified places, where there was non-compliance of Disaster Management Act.
“Amongst 425 arrested people, 45 were apprehended for driving under influence of alcohol, drinking in public and selling liquor without a licence. Some suspects got arrested for assault, malicious damage of property, possession of stolen property, theft, fraud, business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition”, said Mohajane.
Tshwane police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said they have arrested a suspect aged 33 years old, in Pretoria for business robbery, possession of firearm and ammunition.
“On a different case, police apprehended a 22 years old suspect for business burglary at Jakaranda Animals Hospital, Pretoria Moot. Social crime prevention and communication also played a crucial part on communities’ compliance towards Covid-19 regulations alerts. We thank community members for giving us information on people who are not complying with DMA rules and regulations”, said Selepe.
Selepe said event organisers have cooperated with them by cancelling some events in order to stop spread of Covid-19. She applauded law enforcements for monitoring entertainment places and parks during this time of the year.
