The police and community patrollers are hard at work this time of the year as they are spotted patrolling on foot in the Johannesburg CBD on a daily basis. On Thursday, 16 January around 3pm the police arrested two suspects aged 31 and 32 for common robbery and being in possession of dangerous weapons.
The suspects allegedly robbed a 50-year-old man on Corner De Villiers and Wanderers Streets while buying clothes at the local trader stalls. Captain Xoli Mbele explains, “The victim was buying clothes at the stalls when he felt someone taking his cellphone from his pocket. When he turned he saw the suspect giving his cellphone to an accomplice.”
The victim screamed for help and alerted police and community patrollers who were nearby. The suspects were swiftly apprehended by the officers who recovered two knives in the process. The investigation is underway and both suspects are expected to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate Court on Monday, 20 January.
