Kempton Park based Brown Seleme is the founder of Brown’s Food and Beverages, he manufactures hot sauces, Brown’s Hot Sauce, from his kitchen and plans to distribute his produce in chain stores and restaurants in the near future.
When did you establish Brown’s Hot Sauce?
I established Brown’s Hot Sauce around May 2018.
What inspired the manufacturing of your sauces?
I wanted to build a brand I could be proud of, something that I also use and enjoy.
What sets your sauces apart from the rest?
They’re home cooked sauces, made with attention to detail. Unlike some mass produced sauces, I get to taste everything I produce and I am confident that the quality I present to the market is of a high standard.
How do you ensure that the preservative method used on your sauces is safe for consumption?
The type of packaging I use preserves the freshness of the sauces and they can be used for a few months without deteriorating in taste or freshness.
What challenges are you facing as a budding entrepreneur and how do you overcome them?
My biggest challenge is sourcing funding to grow the business. To overcome this challenge I do not pay myself a salary yet, I reinvest all the revenue I make back into the business to maximise production.
Do you have any employees in your business? If yes, how many?
I currently employ two young people who assist me with the manufacturing, packaging and distribution of the sauces.
What else do you do besides your sauces business?
I am an Electrician. I provide electrical solutions under my Brown Electrical Solutions company.
