The father of the three children who died after consuming an energy drink laced with poison, given to the kids by him, has died.
The police in Gauteng have confirmed the passing of the man, saying he died in hospital on Friday under police guard.
He was facing charges of murder and attempted murder at the time of his passing.
“We can confirm that Veli Samuel Ngcongwane, 39 years old, the father charged with the murder and attempted murder of his children following a poisoning incident died in hospital on 10 June,” said Gauteng police spokesperson Brenda Muridili.
16-year-old Lehlogonolo Khoabane, 13-year-old Katleho Khoabane and six-year-old Tebogo Ngcongwane were laid to rest this month after they drank energy drinks given to them by their father while preparing for school.
Two of the children died at school, a third died on the way to the hospital, while a fourth was admitted to a hospital in a serious condition.
The fifth boy had refused the drink.
He was found unconscious at his home after he allegedly tried to commit suicide.
