Testing Stations and vehicle registration offices will remain closed for one day in Johannesburg for staff members to bescreened and tested for Coronavirus. This follows anannouncement by Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula that driving license and vehicle testing station would reopen during level 3 lockdown today.
The Metropolitan Police Department Spokesperson Wayne Minnaar told Gauteng Newspaper that staff members needed to be tested and screened before testing stations reopen.
“The testing stations have to be prepared and Covid-19 compliant before opening. Some testing stations and vehicle registration offices will open tomorrow on 02 June. The station includes Marlboro (Sandton), Roodepoort vehicle registration office at the City Hall, Dube vehicle registration (Soweto) and Wemmer vehicle registration office,” said Minnaar.
However, the Langlaagte Testing Station will not be open tomorrow due to preparation in being Covid-19 compliant. The Midrand Testing Station, Florida Station and Randburg will also still be closed tomorrow.
Minnaar added that all vehicle license discs, driving license cards, learner’s licenses, temporary and professional driving permits expiry date will be extended.
“There is a grace period of three months, from 1st June 2020 to end of August 2020, on all vehicle license discs, driving license cards, learner’s licenses, temporary and professional driving permits which expired prior to the lockdown.” said Minnaar.
