Miss Gauteng Exclusive Zothando Mzizi, together with Lumelang Primary school hosted a social bullying campaign at Tladi in Soweto on Friday.
Twenty-five leaners did bright and colourful posters to teach their peers about social bullying and have an open discourse about bullying and violence with their teachers.

Speaking to Gauteng News, Zothando said, “After researching about physical bullying, I decided to go to the psychologist, Nosipho Mavepu, from Bheki Mlangeni hospital to ask about physical bullying in the area. This helps me to address the school children with real advice and lessons that could help them in their daily life instead of teaching them general stuff from the internet. The learners who were participating in this showed great understanding about bullying and that the bully needed help and not punishment.”
The learners together with Miss Gauteng Exclusive voted for a group and they received money as a reward.
Psychologist Nosipho Mavepu added, “The community of Soweto has a lot of single mothers who worked and came home late, this meant that the children never really have any bond with them as they are usually overworked and stressed. They end up shouting at their children for everything. So if a child is bullied at school they don’t want to tell their parents because they might shout at them or blame them for being bullied as a result, the parents usually find out when the child has committed suicide or is in hospital for trying to commit suicide.”
Mzizi plans to go around schools in Soweto to campaign about social bullying and with the help of a psychologist, the beauty pageant will be able to provide solutions and uplift the community.
However, the school Principal of Lumelang Primary school could not respond to media related queries, because they have a leader in the government that can answer all the questions on their behalf.
Nevertheless, the twenty-five school pupils who participated in the social bullying campaign had to sign a consent form to avoid the school being sued.
Meanwhile, two primary school learners are suspended for gang rape at Rebonthseng Primary, Vosloorus East Rand on last week Monday.
