Preparations for ANC’s 108th birthday underway

The African National Congress is currently in the Northern Cape, Kimberly making preparations for Saturday’s delivery of their annual January 8 statement. The event will be taking place at the Tafel Lager Park stadium on Saturday 11 January 2020. 

The ANC issued its first January 8 statement in 1972 while in exile and it became the party’s founding date outlining the organisation’s programme for the year.

“The delivery of the annual January 8 statement confirms that the ANC remains the parliament of the people. It marks the start of the calendar year of the activities of the ANC, with President Cyril Ramaphosa delivering the statement on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC)”, reads the press release.

Prior to this event members of the party have been engaging with the community in order to determine the issues they are currently facing and how the ANC can deliver.

ANC National Chairperson Gwede Mantashe had a meeting with small scale miners and community members in Schmitsdrif whle Deputy President David Mabuza went on a door-to-door campaign interacting with the community of Galeshewe in Kimberly.
