Resident protest over service delivery

Residents of Soweto Ezumbuzini informal settlement barricaded the Klipspruit Valley road with rocks and tyres last Thursday.

Residents said they are using the last 10 days before the election to show the government that they are not happy .

Resident Amos Mokwena said government has been giving them empty promises.

“I am here because I am tired of empty promises, we are always promised the moon and the stars we vote and nothing happens.

“I am protesting because I am fed up every five years it’s the same story we want houses.

“Government only listens when we close roads and burn tyres when we do things peacefully they never listen,” said Mokwena.

Another resident Lerato Zwane said they been voting for the same party since 1994, but the only changes they see are the politicians pockets and this time she is not going to vote.

“It is frustrating to always have to protest over service that these politicians are mandated to do.

“These 10 days we are going to bring havoc we are tired of the stories and the empty promises.

“This time no one is getting a vote we need houses,we need jobs, its promises one way no results.

“We will protest until we are heard, they can call the police and have them here but at the end of the day the government will see that we are tired of the lies, “shesaid.

Motorist from Protea James Sithole said the protests arefrustrating he has to reroute to get to work.

He added that he gets that people are frustrated, but motorists are suffering because of the road closure and rerouting , even in Orlando there are road closures its frustrating.

JMPD Officer Xolani Fihla urged motorists to avoid the area and officers were there to divert the traffic.
