Security guard jailed for attempted murder

A 29-year-old male security guard was arrested for attempted murder on Sunday, 8 February after shooting a man at corner Plein and Twist streets in the Johannesburg CBD. The incident occurred at 2pm where a 39-year-old female was shopping, alongside her fiance, for wedding materials.

“The soon-to-be wife saw her fiance being pushed by a Fidelity security guard before being shot once, in the lower body with a rifle, by his colleague. The victim was then taken to hospital in an ambulance where he is still recovering”, says Captain Xoli Mbele.

The firearm was confiscated and the suspect appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court.
