Suspects behind bars for attempted murder

Detectives arrested two suspects between the ages of 39 and 56 for attempted murder in Welkom this past Saturday after being on the run for 2 weeks.

“A 39-year-old male victim was driving his blue Toyota Hilux with his friend in Crown Mines on September 28th at approximately 11:00 when he was ambushed by a silver Toyota Yaris and a white Isuzu Bakkie that parked on the front and back of his vehicle. Two men then came out with firearms and shot the tyres of his vehicle”, explained Captain Xoli Mbele.

The men proceeded to damage the victim’s car with a hammer while dousing it with petrol. The victim and his friend were threatened by the suspects, who pointed their guns at them, before abandoning them on the scene.

A good Samaritan driving a white Mercedes Benz came to their aid after the witnessing the whole ordeal and taking the suspects’ registration numbers. The police then followed up on the information and later apprehended the suspects.

The investigation is currently underway and the suspects appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
