Three nabbed in possession of unlicensed firearms

The Police in Gauteng have apprehended three suspects between the ages of 21 to 34 for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition at Cleveland Police Station on 26 August 2021 at 20:00.

It is alleged that suspects robbed customers at Hyper Butchery at corner Kruis and Commissioner Street.

One of the community members informed the police who were busy with their routine crime prevention duties.

Police spokesperson Xoli Mbele said the suspects jumped into a white Ford Focus and sped off; police gave chase until their vehicle collided with a white Siyaya Taxi at corner End and Anderson Street.

“They jumped off and fled, but two firearms were recovered and live ammunition,” said Mbele.

Mbele said the suspects went to Cleveland Police station to open a false case of car hijacking; communication between the police led to their arrest and were taken to Johannesburg Central cells.

“Firearms will be sent to ballistic testing to ascertain if they were used in the commission of other serious and violent crimes,” Mbele explained.

Investigation is underway and suspects will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court.

Johannesburg Central Station Commander Brigadier Perumal commended good work done by the police and encourage the victims of crime to come forward to open cases.
